Uniform Commercial Code
Effective January 1, 2025, the Virginia SCC Clerk’s Office will only accept Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) documents submitted online. Paper submissions will be returned unprocessed.
All UCC filings must be made through the Clerk’s Information System (CIS).
The Clerk's Information System (CIS) contains Uniform Commercial Code financing statements and federal tax lien information that have been filed with the Commission. This information can be searched by the name of the debtor, or by the file number. The file number is a number assigned by the Clerk’s Office once a filing has been processed. Images of UCC and federal tax lien documents filed in the Clerk’s Office since October 1, 2003, in PDF format, are available in CIS.
